About
I’m a writer and communications practitioner based in Monmouth, South Wales. I started my working life on a local newspaper, but music was where my heart really lay, and I soon moved on to work in the marketing department of St David’s Hall, a 2,000-seat concert hall/music venue.
I was in my element working in music, and I worked my way up to become Marketing Manager. But there was something missing. Simply putting ‘bums on seats’ wasn’t really enough for me. So when an opportunity came up to promote the social impact of music – working for Sound Sense, the UK development agency for community music – I jumped at the chance.
And that, for me was a turning point. I researched, wrote, and communicated the social and educational impact of music and the arts, and became connected to a wide variety of people and organisations involved in working for a social purpose. I began to specialise in writing, and in advocacy communications and eventually set up my own business doing just that.
That’s why, now I’m freelance, communications that contribute to a fairer and more creative society continue to be at the heart of what I do.
A lot of my work currently is with music education hubs and other organisations working to make sure all young people, particularly those with least opportunity or who struggle with learning or with life, get access to music education.
So if you’re an organisation whose work deserves to find a wider audience, I’d love to hear from you. Visit my website at www.writing-services.co.uk to read about the services I provide and the clients I’ve worked with and do get in touch if you think I can help.
Hi Alison,
My name is Emma Van Nieuwenburgh I work for an Royal Opera House Bridge. ROH Bridge are one of 10 organisations nationally funded by Arts Council England to connect children and young people to art and cultural opportunities. We are hosted by ROH and cover Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Essex and Medway in Kent. Our website gives a good overview of our work http://www.roh.org.uk/learning/royal-opera-house-bridge
We are looking for someone who can carry out some research for us around advocating the value of arts and culture to parents. We read a article you had written about what parents can do to support music education and wondered if you may be interested in this type of work or if you knew of anyone else who may be interested.
We would be very pleased to hear from you to discuss further.
Kind regards,
Emma Van Nieuwenburgh
