Protea Care – copywriting and editing for a children’s care home
The newly-established Protea Care was looking for help with developing and writing its Statement of Purpose, and ‘About us’ and ‘Vision, mission and values’ copy. The two partners also wanted help to complete Department for Education ‘Fit Person and Responsible Individual’ statements and ‘Children’s Handbook’, as part of their application to become a registered care home provider for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The company is owned by Tanya Netto and Greg Steyn, a husband and wife partnership, who were setting up their first residential home, Sugarbush House, in Corby, Northamptonshire.
Following an initial Skype meeting, we sent the partners a questionnaire to help us to get a sense of their business, aims and values. We then discussed the completed questionnaire and other draft documents at a further Skype meeting.
Our first task was to proofread and edit the company’s Statement of Purpose, checking for consistent tone of voice and terminology, and making edits to bring out some key messages about their purpose and values.
We then wrote new sections from scratch, making sure to weave the company’s values throughout the copy. Following a number of draft stages, we moved on to writing the ‘About us’ and ‘vision, mission and values’ copy for the company’s website and electronic/hard copy documents.
Finally, after further discussions, we edited their draft Department for Education documents. For the ‘Fit Person and Responsible Individual’ form, we focused on conveying the partners’ wealth of experiences and transferable skills. For the Children’s Handbook we wrote in a child-friendly and reassuring tone of voice suitable for 0-9 year-olds.
Protea Care is the fourth care home or supported accommodation provider we’ve worked with. Read about our work with Sanctuary Retirement Living, Cedar Care, and Notaro Care.
