Real Ideas Organisation – writing for the web

Writing Services created a writing for the web INSET training day for the Real Ideas Organisation which included web navigation and good digital writing.

RIO (Real Ideas Organisation) is a pioneering social enterprise which creates and provides programmes, products and services that help young people realise their potential.

As part of its work with Newnham St Peters Primary School, RIO wanted to help the Literacy Co-ordinator learn about writing for the web.

Anita researched, developed and delivered a one-to-one writing for the web INSET day. The training included topics such as: why writing for the web is different to writing for print; how people read and navigate on the web; what they like to see/do on a website; and the principles of good digital writing.

The Literacy Co-ordinator has since run sessions with pupils and other teachers at the school, helping them to approach their writing differently when they write for their school website and class blog.

The training delivered by Writing Services was so successful that the school launched its brand new website in August 2016. Following the lessons learned during the training, the new website is extremely easy to edit by all staff at the school, and is intended to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things the pupils are achieving.
