A writing life: monthly column for 26

Woman with long dark brown hair at a desk, side on, typing on a lap top

Over the next 6 months (from January 2026) I’m writing a monthly column for 26, the association of creative writers in business. I’ll be sharing stories from my writing life and reflecting on what it means to live as a writer today.

See the first blog here and search on the site for ‘A writing life’ for the blogs that follow.

  • This monthly column offers a fascinating glimpse into the creative process, but what do you find is the most challenging aspect of maintaining a writing life today? Regards Telkom University Jakarta

Hi Cahyaeka, thanks for your question. I guess the main challenges (and opportunities) are: 1) as for all freelancers, getting work – repeat business from existing clients, and work from new clients; 2) encouraging potential clients to see the value of words, and of employing a professional writer; 3) continuing to develop professionally (including staying creatively fresh, and keeping up with new developments) – I hope this helps, kind regards, Anita
