About
The Literacy Co-ordinator at Newnham St Peters Primary School in Gloucestershire, wanted her pupils to learn about writing for the web. RIO (Real Ideas Organisation) who were creative consultants to the school, approached Anita to create and deliver a day of INSET training day.
RIO (Real Ideas Organisation) is a pioneering social enterprise which creates and provides programmes, products and services that help young people realise their potential.
Anita researched, developed and delivered a one-to-one writing for the web INSET day. The training included topics such as: why writing for the web is different to writing for print; how people read and navigate on the web; what they like to see/do on a website; and the principles of good digital writing.
She then ran a fun, interactive workshop with pupils to test and adapt the approach.
How I helped
The Literacy Co-ordinator has since run sessions with pupils and other teachers at the school, helping them to approach their writing differently when they write for their school website and class blog.
As a result of the training, the school launched its new website in August 2016. Following the lessons learned during the training, the new website is extremely easy to edit by all staff at the school, and is intended to keep parents up to date with school news and notices, and to showcase some of the great things the pupils are achieving.
