About

Rocksteady Music School wanted to be able to convince school heads about the benefits of music and Rocksteady’s approach, for disadvantaged young people. They approached us because they’d seen and heard about our other website, Music Education Works. which collects, summarises and shares evidence of the impact of music education.

How I helped

Following briefing conversations, Anita began to develop copy which brought together research from around the world in eight areas:

  • General academic progress and attainment
  • Cognitive development
  • Inclusion
  • Personal development including resilience and relationships
  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Mental wellbeing and behaviour
  • Parental involvement
  • Confidence and self-belief

She combined this with copywriting about the Rocksteady approach and quotes and stories from young people, parents and teachers who’ve experienced the benefits of music through Rocksteady’s work.

The result is a publication that helps the team to start conversations about funding music through the Pupil Premium, and using music to reduce the attainment gap.

Anita has since also helped the team to develop a response to the consultation on the National Plan for Music Education.
