About
We were asked by fundraiser Alison Hope to write the annual impact report for South Bristol Youth (SBY) along with copy for its new website. The aim was to make it easier to understand the value and impact of its work. It would reassure potential funders (and parents) about SBY’s ability and capacity to deliver, and encourage potential commissioners/partners to get in touch.
SBY works in partnership with schools to raise the attainment levels and life chances of disadvantaged young people. It runs programmes that provide the skills, knowledge and confidence to help young people access pathways to apprenticeships, higher education and better jobs. As a result, they’re better able to reach their potential in work and in life.
How I helped
The copy writing work began with a questionnaire and Skype interview with CEO Camilla Chandler and fundraise Alison Hope.
Using this information, as well as evaluation reports, case studies, and statistical information we created a booklet which that balances facts and figures with stories of change.
It explains why SBY is needed, and how it makes a difference (its ‘theory of change’) through short, digestible chunks of information, powerful statistics, infographics, and stories about, and quotes from, young people.
The website restructure followed a similar vein, and had to satisfy three main, but differing audiences: funders, schools, and parents/carers.
We’ve since continued to support South Bristol Youth by contributing to its annual impact reports.
