About
The Music Works is a community music charity whose mission is to transform lives through creative music-making. The charity had recently undergone its own transformation: appointing a new chief executive, and developing a new business plan and brand. Its aim was to reach many more young people by growing its ability to secure funding, generate income and build a strong organisational foundation. Chief Executive Deborah Potts approached Anita as a community music copywriting specialist to create a ‘case for support’ – a document that sets out clearly, what the organisation is all about, the impact it makes, why it needs and deserves funding, and what it will achieve.
The Music Work uses music to empower people to reach their potential. In particular, it focuses on young people who face the greatest barriers in learning and in life: those experiencing mental health problems, who are not in education employment or training, who have disabilities or chronic physical health conditions; those who are young offenders or looked-after children.
How I helped
Communicating values, impact, outcomes
Following research and discussions with team members, the final document outlined the challenges facing people in the county – and therefore funders and commissioners of services; how and why The Music Works can address these; and included two short case studies of young people the charity has helped.
The team can adapt the case for support for a range of different purposes, using it in funding applications, proposals, or tenders as well as promotional materials.
