"The sector we work in is one with an acronym. And there starts the problem. It’s the WASH sector – the water, sanitation and hygiene sector. It is cluttered with jargon. We who are in it are barely aware of the impenetrability of our discussions for outsiders. The jargon is not a problem at the conferences where we all get together or in the reports we write and share with sector peers. But it is in engaging with the rest of the world. This is where we get the great support from Anita. Through her copywriting and editing she helps us in making our content concise, engaging, straightforward and accessible for the rest of world. And she does that very well."
Petra Brussee, Head of Corporate Communications, IRC.

About

It’s exciting to be working regularly with an international client – especially one with such an important mission. IRC is an international water charity that’s working to strengthen water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) systems that transform lives.

How I helped

I’ve worked regularly with IRC since 2012, including copywriting, editing and ghostwriting for:

    • stories of individuals and case studies
    • annual reports, for a readership of funders, governments and people working in international development
    • key messages, tone of voice, and editing/ghostwriting thought leadership articles for the All Systems Connect International Symposium
    • thought leadership essays – on topics such as systems leadership and connecting beyond silos
    • a fundraising enews
    • various core organisational/brand materials – eg vision, mission, values; brand guidance
    • websites
    • fundraising documents  (eg a proposal document to the Dutch Government and a PowerPoint presentation and fundraising brochure for international funders)
    • online courses for the online WASH Systems Academy
